12 TV Shows That America Failed At Remaking

Sometimes, America gets things wrong. Sometimes they try to remake television shows and it just..doesn't..work. I don't know why they even bother. America has a lot more restrictions about what it's allowed to show. For example, swearing is much more frowned upon than in is over here, let alone the sort of swear words our TV shows sometimes come out with!
Now don't get me wrong, America has made some amazing TV shows! Breaking Bad! The Simpsons! Friends! To just mention a few of the classics. Speaking of classics;

Red Dwarf
I don't know what people were thinking trying to remake this. I saw on an extra that Craig Charles was secretly pretty smug that this flopped. I would be too! I'm pretty sure this only got as far as the Pilot though, luckily!

Men Behaving Badly
This actually got pretty far! There was two seasons! But it flopped after that. Starring Rob Schneider surely there's no comparison between him, Martin Clunes & Neil Morrissey!

Fawlty Towers
Yup, you read it correctly. 'Payne' was the American version of Fawlty Towers, being based in California as opposed to Torquay, England. They even had characters based on Basil, Sybil, Polly & Manuel!

Coupling
I was actually the biggest fan of Coupling when it was on TV. UK I mean. I still remember the jokes, and they still make me laugh now. It was the first thing I saw Jack Davenport in before Pirates of the Caribbean, and Sarah Alexander who I later saw in Green Wing. (Another favourite). Apparently Coupling was remade after Friends ended, and felt there needed to be something to replace it!

Peep Show
Nothing & No one can ever replace or be as good as David Mitchell & Robert Webb. I really don't need to say anything else.

Shameless
Apparently Shameless had to be adapted for American viewers due to all the swearing, law breaking & drugs that put people off watching it. Surely that was Shameless though. And seriously, William H Macy as Frank?! WHAT. He is & always will be The Green Goblin. This is actually a really popular USA show though! I just..don't get it.

Kath & Kim
Now, let me clarify. I can't actually stand Kath & Kim, but I do get it. You can't go from orange, ridiculous frizzy haired loons is the original, to casting Molly Shannon & Selma Blair. SELMA BLAIR. Just no, it doesn't work.

Skins
No judging, but I loved Skins. I still do. I recently rewatched all the series actually. Seeing as this show is based in Bristol, how can they possible remake it in America? Well they did, and it sucked. Using the same storylines & jokes, but without the humour. Slightly altering names, but the worst thing they did was replace a Gay MALE dancer, with a FEMALE lesbian cheerleader. Why did they feel the need to do that?!

The Office
I know, I know. A lot of people love The Office USA. But not me. I love Steve Carrell, but this just isn't for me. You can't replace Ricky Gervais & Steven Merchant. Let alone Martin Freeman & Mackenzie Crook!

The IT Crowd
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT.
Richard Ayoade was actually going to still star as Moss, but without the others, it just wouldn't be the same.
They only ended up making the pilot.

Being Human
One of my favourite TV shows of all time. Don't ruin it for me.
Surely you have enough vampire tv shows!?

Last but not least..possibly the most annoying remake.

The Inbetweeners
The funniest program ever, the best characters ever. Probably one of the most quotable tv shows of all time.
So what happen when you take out the jokes, change the actors & the look of the characters, and remove the quotes. IT'S TERRIBLE. Honestly that is how they ruined the show though. I honestly spent a few hours, a few years ago given this show a chance, and that is time I will never get back.
This is like the most british show, maybe next time..don't even try?

Do you know what annoys me the most though, is when they literally copy episodes. Word for word, or as close as they can get without offending anyone. Same lines, same jokes. I don't really see what the point of remaking it is!

What do you think about these remakes?
Have you seen any of them?
