Oh My Blog - Summer Holiday Edition {Guest Post}

This is Oh My Blog: A monthly blogging series that allows you to meet a fellow blogger and get their  opinions on a whole host of topics. Since its July, there’s no better time to start talking about holidays, sunshine and getaways and this month, it’s the turn of Kelly-Anne from Mimi Rose & Me.

  1. Summer is here! Are you going (or have you been) anywhere nice this year?
I am so glad that summer is finally here. I live for days in the garden watching my little lady play. This year we are opting for a little holiday in the UK, we are off to a cottage in Appersett in North Yorkshire. We have decided to take our family holiday with my parents and we have been looking for things to do when we arrive, we have lots to look forward to including the Peter Rabbit Museum.
  1. Where is your favourite Summer holiday destination?
My all time favourite summer holiday destination without a doubt would be the beautiful Cuba. My husband and I went on our honeymoon here and it was simply amazing. Our honeymoon was a once in a lifetime experience and I am so glad that I got to share so many with my husband. But what makes this destination even better is that it is perfect for families, as there is so much for everyone to do, we crammed so much into two weeks. If you ever get the chance to go to this beautiful country, please do. You will not be disappointed.
  1. Do you prefer to spend your summer abroad or in the UK?
I think I would have to say that if you have young children a UK holiday would be better for everyone. As taking young children abroad can be quite stressful with taking them on a plane, keeping them quiet for as long as you can to avoid those looks. That's not even including the things that are thrown your way once you reach your destination. The whole idea of a holiday is to enjoy a break with your family, not wanting another holiday to get over the holiday you just went on. I think when children get to three or four is the perfect time to take holidays abroad.
  1. Any holiday horror stories to report?
I wouldn't say that I have a horror story about a family holiday, but the first holiday we took our daughter on was a complete nightmare. It was so hard because her routine was completely out of sync and she didn't want to sleep, going through separation anxiety didn't help and was tough on us all.
  1. If you do go on holiday, are you a “sit by the pool all day” kind or person, or a “we need to get out and explore” kind of tourist?
Get out and explore kind of girl. I have never been one to sit by the pool all day, I would get very bored and because I have such fair skin I would burn, badly. How I see it why would you go to a beautiful country and not explore.
  1. Please help settle an argument. What is the earliest acceptable time to have a pre-holiday pint in the airport pub?
As soon as you're in holiday mode it's go time. Whether that' a pint a 4am or 4pm!
  1. How are you with flying? Love it, hate it or a bit nonplussed by it all?
As long as I am with my husband I am absolutely fine, I haven't travelled lots in my lifetime and most of the time I am with him, he keeps me calm.
  1. What has been your favourite holiday that you’ve ever been on?
Going back to a holiday in Cuba. The perfect holiday destination. A beautiful country, beautiful people, beautiful beaches and amazing cocktails...need I say more.
  1. Where would you absolutely love to go, that you haven’t been yet?
I would love to be able to go to Thailand. It is a place that has always intrigued me as one of my friends go every single year, without fail. When the talk about their travels to Thailand they make me so jealous and makes me want to explore this beautiful country.
  1. What is your favourite summer holiday memory from when you were a kid?
For me my favourite summer holiday memory would have to be when all of my entire family travelled four hours for a camping holiday. It was the best time, we all had so much find and explored like there was no tomorrow. Whenever I feel sad, it's actually this holiday that I think about as my happy place.
  1. What is the first song on your summer anthems playlist?
Hmmm unsure on this one, never really thought about it.
  1. Camping (be it in the wilderness or in your back garden when you were a kid). Your thoughts?
Every year when I was a child my Nan and Grandad would always take my brother, my sister and me camping. They would sleep in their bright blue campervan, while us children became at one with nature in a tent. We always had the best time. Now as a mum who loves her comforts I don't know how I would feel about camping, I would love to take my daughter but hate feeling grubby! Maybe 'Glamping'!
  1. Do you tan easily, or are you a brilliant shade of toothpaste white wherever you go?
I rock the 'brilliant white shade of toothpaste' look, my skin is so fair and as soon as the sun comes out I come up in a rash and burn terribly. I have even had a few bouts of sunstrokes on some holidays abroad, clearly cocktails are not hydrating enough.
  1. What attraction or event would you recommend people go to this summer?
Hmmm, again I have not really thought about this one. But one event that I would love to take my daughter to is camp bestival festival. I have heard nothing but amazing things about this summer event.
  1. Finally, let us have you best tip for a stress-free holiday?
Preparation is key. Always expect the unexpected and you'll be sure to have a stress free holiday.
