DIY Home Improvement Ideas To Update Your House

We'd all love to improve our homes, wouldn't we? There's always something you wish you could do, or create the home you could only dream of. But improving and updating your home doesn't have to cost a fortune. With a few little tricks, licks of paint and touches here and there can really make a huge difference. You don't have to completely rip out a room and start from scratch and it doesn't have to cost the earth. Whether you are looking to create the home you have always wanted, or perhaps you want to add value to your property, these DIY Home Improvement Ideas To Update Your House will surely help you along the way.

Get Painting
A new lick of paint can really make a huge difference to a room. If you have little ones, I'm sure your walls are no longer the colour they were originally. Handprints, foodprints or perhaps your little ones decided that your wall needed a bit more colour. Go for more neutral colours to make your home fresher & brighter, but neutral doesn't mean magnolia! We have a lot of neutral colours in our home, but that includes light grey, a darker grey, pale yellow and pale purple! It doesn't have to be boring!

Change The Flooring
Perhaps when you bought your home you had lovely, cream, clean carpets...then along came the children. Your cream carpets are not longer cream, but more of a dirty yellow, caused by muddy shoes, food messes and..unpleasant stains. If you can, why not completely update them and buy some new (perhaps a slightly darker colour) carpet, or even try something new with laminate or wooden flooring. If you're on a budget, just hire a carpet cleaner and get those carpets looking brand new again! We use our carpet cleaner often, and I have to say it completely changes the look of the carpets!

Accessorize!
Adding a few finishing touches around the home can make a world of difference. Put up a few more mirrors, as they really help to brighten the place up and they create the illusion of a much bigger space. If you're on a budget, you could buy some secondhand mirrors and paint them to match your colour scheme. Use those gorgeous frames you've been hoarding and finally put up some family photos too! You could even buy some beautiful artwork to really revamp your walls. We have mirrors in every room and an inspirational piece of artwork or two.

Get Outside
Your home isn't only the inside, if you are lucky enough to have a garden, be sure to give that a bit of a spruce up too. Mow the lawn, pull up the weeds, plant some beautiful flowers. Give the fence a new lick of paint, and even add some garden decorations to really revamp your outside space. I really want to get some solar lights for our garden as I think they just make it look more inviting!

Bring The Outside In
Make sure you let in lots of natural light. Open those blinds, use lighter fabrics and drapes and get those windows open. (Unless it's winter of course). Breathing in fresh air helps us to feel more relaxed and makes the home smell clean and crisp. Have fresh flowers in a vase on your table too, and perhaps some houseplants. I am obsessed with houseplants at the moment!

Create More Storage
No one wants their worktops, desks, and shelves to be covered with unnecessary clutter. It's hard though if like me you work from home and/or have children! So using the right storage is essential. If there's space, make sure you utilize under the bed storage. That's my personal favourite. As long as you store things correctly and neatly in a box or drawer it's the perfect hiding place. Buy some pretty files and folders for the avalanche of paperwork (and organise it!), and perhaps put up some hooks or buy over the door hangers.

Do you have any other easy, and budget friendly ways to improve your home?
