EXCITING HOLIDAY IDEAS TO GET YOUR HEART POUNDING

* This is a collaborative post

When was the last time you had a really exciting holiday? Not a fun holiday, or a moving, or emotional, or memorable holiday, but one that got your blood pumping, your heart racing, and made you feel like you were really having a rare adventure?

Adrenaline junkies and daredevils are well familiar with these kinds of sensations, but you don’t need to set yourself on fire and skateboard down the side of the Grand Canyon in order to push past your comfort zone and feel the excitement that comes with trying something new, strange, and a little bit dangerous. If you’re in the mood for an active holiday that gets you out of the living room and makes you feel alive, why not try the following ideas, whether you’re holidaying alone, with your significant other, or with friends or family.

SCUBA Diving
SCUBA diving is an amazing pastime, partly because it’s surprisingly accessible for most people (usually you only need a few training dives with an instructor before being awarded your license and being allowed into deeper waters) and partly because it offers a completely different perspective on the world. As everybody’s heard at least once or twice, the majority of the earth is covered in water. Yet we humans are completely built for land, and seldom ever do more than get our toes wet from time to time.

SCUBA diving is a way of completely removing yourself from your normal environment, and getting out into that mysterious other world, populated by strange and wonderful creatures, ocean wrecks, and more. When you go SCUBA diving, everything is different from your normal experience. You’re breathing underwater. You move differently. You may well encounter a turtle swimming by, a school of fish, an eel, or a coral bed, depending on the region you’re diving in. As you get more advanced and pass your higher SCUBA qualifications, you can even go on dives to scout out the wrecks of sunken ships.

Skiing & snowboarding
Skiing and snowboarding — at least when done downhill at reasonable speed — are activities bound to get your heart racing, at least, once you know how to stop falling over. If you’ve ever watched the Winter Olympics, you’ll know that people on snowboards and skis are capable of performing some utterly insane stunts. As a beginner, you obviously shouldn’t be trying to do backflips off ramps, but you will undoubtedly still find that your Arinsal lift pass introduces you to a world of high-adrenaline fun.

Skydiving
This isn’t going to be one for everyone to try out, but if you really want to feel the shock and high of your life (pun intended), then it’d be hard to beat the experience of throwing yourself out of a plane. While, of course, it takes some training and practice to learn how to skydive yourself, you can always sign up for a session of tandem skydiving, where you will be strapped to an instructor who will know how to steer you and when to release the parachute. If you’ve got the stomach for it, one thing is certain about this pastime — it’s not going to be boring.

Wherever you are planning to go on holiday this year, and whatever fun activity you plan on doing, it’s so important you take out medical travel insurance. The last thing you’ll want to do is end up paying out massive medical bills if something should go wrong.
