Do You Know What To Look For When Moving House?

*This is a collaborative post
Moving house is a huge step in your life, it's a long process but it's important that everything is just the way you want it, all the paperwork is filled in correctly and you've checked the house thoroughly for any potential problems. Nothing could be worse than moving into a new house to discover that their are under lying issues that will cause a problem in the future. For example, damp problems, pipes that are prone to freezing or storage heating! If frozen pipes are an issue, you will have to call in a professional as they will have the equipment needed.

Moving house can be incredibly stressful, but it doesn't have to be as long as you are organised and prepared, and you know what to look out for in a new house!

I asked a few fellow bloggers for their suggestions of different things you need to make sure you check before you sign the deeds!

"Make sure you check out the boiler and see it in action! If it's old then you'll need to factor in the cost of replacement which could be several thousand pounds if you also need new radiators. A house without good heating can be miserable indeed!" - Whinge Whinge Wine

"Ask what the monthly energy bills are. We moved into a house with electric storage heaters and was not prepared for how much they cost to run." - Me, Him, A Dog & A Baby

"Check the boundaries of the property against the land registry. You don't want to buy a house then find out the fence is in the wrong place or part of your driveway isn't yours (if you have neighbours!). - Rachel Bustin

"Look for any signs of damp, peeling paint, wallpaper, staining on the walls. If the wall feels very cold or damp to the touch it's often a bad sign" - Five Little Doves

I've been in this position myself, my first home I moved into after leaving my parent's home looked absolutely perfect in the beginning, but after a month of heavy rain I had mould growing in every room and half my clothes were destroyed! They even had to hire professionals to come in and fix the problem!

Moving house doesn't have to be a stressful task, as long as you know what you are looking for, I'd also suggest visiting your new neighbourhood before hand, to give a feel for it and check out the amenities, and definitely hire a moving company! Bekins Moving Solutions can help you out on that front. The key to getting a new home is planning planning planning! You can never be too careful, or question too much. Don't be scared to check every nook and cranny of the potential new home!
