10 Motivational Activities to Make You Feel Like a Superstar

*This is a collaborative post

During the colder winter months, it’s easy to feel a little sluggish and unmotivated. You may have had certain new year’s resolutions in mind, but now they seem less achievable. Fortunately, spring is around the corner and it’s time to start focusing on your goals. Reevaluate your plans and find ways to really motivate yourself. The warmer weather will help and spending time outdoors does the world of good. As well as concentrating on professional or fitness goals, why not help out in the local community? There are several rewarding activities you can try to give you the motivation you need this year.

Posture exercises
First things first, you need to improve your posture and boost your confidence. There have been several links between good posture and self-esteem. Poor posture, in fact, can also affect your health. Practise exercises to improve your posture such as yoga or core workouts. You should also ensure your workstation is ergonomic and supportive. Just by making an effort to maintain good posture, you’ll already feel more energised and ready to take on the world. Stand up straight, hold your head high, and remember to smile.

Set smart goals
Spring is the perfect time of year to reevaluate your goals. Short-term goals are more manageable and it’s a good idea to set them season to season, rather than simply forgetting about your new year’s resolutions. The best way to make your objectives more achievable is to use the SMART goals criteria. Goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. This can be applied to any goals whether their professional, health and fitness related, or financial. Break your goals into specific, measurable tasks with a timeframe. You also need to remember your reasons behind setting them. If they’re not relevant right now you’ll be less motivated to achieve them. Always celebrate each milestone however small and reward yourself.

Volunteer in the local community
Volunteering is very rewarding and you’ll feel like a superstar for helping others. It will give you a new perspective on life and a great sense of achievement. You can find places and organisations easily on the government website. Look for a charity with a cause you’re particularly interested in, or simply help those in need near you.

Help out at your child’s school
Another option for parents is to help out at your child’s school. You could volunteer to read with children or organise after school activities and clubs. You could even take part in planning school events as they’ll often need extra hands on deck. You might end up setting up stage lighting equipment or assisting with the catering. Finding ways to help out will be very motivating and you can get more involved in your child’s school life.

Get in touch with nature
There are many wellness benefits of getting outdoors and in touch with nature. It allows you to centre your mind and find your inner calm. Try mindful activities like forest bathing. Simply take in the sights, sounds, and smells of the local woods near you. It’s a great way to gain perspective and focus on positive thoughts. Here are some of the best places for forest bathing. It’s very beneficial for children as well and is something the whole family can do together.

Practise mindful gratitude
Research has shown that mindfulness and gratitude go hand in hand. If you want to develop a positive awareness of yourself and your environment it’s important to practise mindful gratitude. You could do this while meditating, for example. Spend a few minutes each day to sit somewhere quiet, clear your mind and focus on the things you’re grateful for. You could also try writing a gratitude journal along with positive affirmations.

Learn something new
There are countless benefits of learning new skills. You could focus on professional development by taking a course or even a sideways transfer at work. The new skills you learn will open many doors for you and this is very motivating. If you’re feeling like you’re stuck in a rut at work this could be the way forward. Learning something new outside of work is also good for your overall mental wellbeing. Try a new hobby whether it’s a creative activity, exercise or sport, or even starting a blog. This will give you the motivation you need to get out of your rut.

Discover hidden gems near you
Often a change of scenery is another great way to gain perspective. This doesn’t necessarily mean travelling far, however. There are plenty of hidden gems to discover easily within reach. You can go on a family day out and look for curious and interesting places nearby. Here’s how to find the best-kept secrets near you. Perform a quick google search and check out the most quirky locations you can find.

Get inspiration from your heroes
If you’re in need of motivation get inspired by your heroes. These may be authors, actors, musicians, or sports stars. Watch a film or read a book with a motivational story. Listen to your favourite feel-good tracks. You could even find a superstar in your family who inspires you, they don’t necessarily have to be famous. Try to seek encouragement from the support group around you and you can motivate each other to achieve great things.

Make time to play
Playtime is just as beneficial for adults as it is for children. It’s important to make time to play. This means disconnecting completely from your everyday stresses and setting time aside to enjoy yourself. Play is often incorporated into work environments, for example, even if it’s just a quick quiz or game between colleagues. You could also embrace your inner child by trying activities such as colouring, climbing trees, video games, or even visiting a theme park. There are endless possibilities. The important thing is that you have fun and leave your troubles behind for a couple of hours. You’ll come back feeling revitalised and ready to tackle whatever life throws at you.
