7 Reasons Why You Should Never Give Up {Guest Post}

“Sometimes down but never out” - 7 reasons why you should never give up
Does anyone else have days like this? Days where you feel like you’re running uphill in treacle and there’s no end in sight? Days where your ‘to do list’ is longer than your arm and you find the milk in the washer and socks in the fridge? Days when you’re just about keeping your head above water and close to giving up?

I have to be honest, after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 25, there have been many times when I have struggled to keep going. Numerous unpredictable relapses of varying severity coupled with crippling daily fatigue and brain fog have proved difficult storms to weather. Starting my blog has given me a whole new lease of life but has also introduced a wealth of new anxieties and challenges. From day to day, I’m thinking I’m not good enough, I can’t do it, it’s too difficult, I’m too tired, I don’t have time, I don’t understand and I’m not going to get anywhere anyway.

But a Lady Janey does not give up, has never given up and has no intention of ever giving up. It’s just not in her genes to do so. Mum always said that when you fall, you have to dust yourself down and then carry on. I’m a big believer that whatever doesn’t break you, makes you stronger. With this in mind, these are my top seven inspirational reasons why giving up should never be an option.

1. Life is too short- You need to live each day to the full because you never know what might be just around the corner.

2. It’s never a problem, it’s an opportunity – This is something I learnt from my Dad. Try to look at things in a different way, through a different lens.

3. It could be worse – I’ve had multiple sclerosis now for nearly twenty years and although things haven’t been easy at times, I’m always very much aware that there are other people who are far worse off than me and for that, I am humbly grateful.

4. Storms will always pass – Sometimes when something bad happens, it can feel like the end of the world but whatever its nature, a storm will eventually pass and the sun will shine so hold out for that moment.

5. Dreams are worth fighting for –If you really want something in life, then you have to be prepared to fight for it. Keep your eye on that final goal.

6. It’s never over until the fat lady sings – There is always a way to do something, no matter how difficult it may be. Exhaust every possible avenue in your quest to achieve your dreams. Where there is a will, there is a way.

7. You are the light in someone else’s darkness – Other people need you, rely on you and love you so you have to keep going for them if not yourself.

In the words of Martin Luther King Jr, “ If you can’t fly, then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.”

In my words, no matter how difficult things get, keep on going. You may sometimes be down but that does not mean you have to be out.
