Fun New Creative Hobbies To Try This Year
I honestly believe in the importance of expressing your creative side. It's good for you, it's often a handy skill to have (the ability to create your own items, such as knitwear or home decor) and it can be a lot of fun! We are all capable of being creative, perhaps you just haven't found a creative hobby you enjoy yet!
* In collaboration with Design Bundles
This year I wanted to try a few new crafts, I love trying a range of different things and it's always fun learning a new skill (whether or not I'm any good at it is a different matter!) I wanted to share a few ideas today of some new creative hobbies to try this year, I also asked some fellow bloggers which crafts they'd like to give a go too!
Knitting
I've always loved the idea of learning to knit, and homemade knitwear is just the most beautiful thing! Especially on children. Many of my family members can knit, but I haven't quite managed it yet.
"I would really like to learn to knit. Everyone raves about how therapeutic it is and I think it would help me be more mindful and rest my overactive mind" - Simple Parenting
Bullet Journaling
I've tried bullet journaling in the past as I am absolutely obsessed with notebooks and writing lists! Unfortunately for me though I find it a bit too time consuming in the beginning, but I'd love to give it another go in the future!
"I keep seeing amazing bullet journal drawings and designs all over Pinterest and I'm obsessed with them, but so far from being good at it; so I definitely want to practice that and get better!" - My Everything Beautiful
Face Painting
It was only last month I was thinking I wish I could do face painting! (It was my little girl's birthday party!) It must be such a handy skill to have, especially when you've got children. Plus it's definitely a skill you can sell!
"I did a face painting course over a year ago, I bought all the paints but only occassionally used them. So going to try to improve my skills this year!" - Mama Mei
Crocheting
Crochet is another skill that would be amazing to master, it's such a versatile craft and there's so much variety in the things you could create!
"I'd love to try crochet. I've briefly attempted it before, but never seriously. It looks like it should be so simple, but I've never quite managed to get my head around it yet..hopefully this year!" - Life As Mrs D
"I'm learning to crochet. It was on my list of goals for the year and I signed up for a class the first week of January" - Farmer's Wife & Mummy
Scrapbooking
I've always loved the idea of scrapbooking. It's the perfect way for anyone to get creative as their literally are no rules or instructions of what to do. It's a lovely way to celebrate, treasure and display your photos and jot down your memories. I definitely want to give it a proper go one day. If you are already a scrapbooker and are looking for graphics, Design Bundles have a variety of svg downloads to choose from.
Lino Printing
Lino Printing is such a unique and beautiful way to create your own artwork. It's supposed to be a really therapeutic way to create art, plus quite simple to learn apparently too!
"I started illustrating my first book this year so that's my main focus, but I'd love to try lino printing.." - Wafflemama
Photography
Something I've been trying to improve on for a while now. I'd love to take a class or course on photography in the near future!
"I would love to be able to take a decent photograph and edit them. For the life of me I'm still rubbish no matter how hard I try." - The Family Ticket
Needle Felting
Needle felting is such a lovely, and addictive craft to try! It's quite simple to pick up too so I'd really recommend you giving it a go!
"..I've just got into it and I've made little things for nursery decorations. Anybody can do it! You can buy kits to get you going or watch tutorials on Youtube. I actually went to a day class locally with some friends and now I'm hooked! I'm hoping to make lots of Christmas decorations throughout the year to give as homemade presents" - The Merralls Home
Drawing
I've always been a little jealous of people who were really good at drawing, I'd love to be able to learn to!
"I'm the least crafty and artistic person I know. I'd love to learn how to draw. Both my parents were good artists, alas it's not been passed to me" - The Incidental Parent
"It wouldn't be a new hobby as I actually went to art college, but I would LOVE to start drawing again. Now the kids are at school I might be able to get my pencils out without them being swiped!" - Me, Annie Bee
Would you like to try any of these crafts this year?
