Book Of The Month - Hansel & Gretel

Book Of The Month is where my little ones & I focus on one book each month, read it, watch it (if possible) and do fun activities based on it! I really want my little ones to read all the classic fairy tales during their childhood! So this past month we've been enjoying Hansel & Gretel!

Hansel and Gretel actually used to scare me as a child, but there are so many different variations of this story, some darker than others! It's a great story though, and a classic fairy tale!

To start our month of activities we read the book together and also watched a short musical version on Youtube! (My eldest two are obsessed with watching fairy tale cartoons!)

As you may know by now, gingerbread is my absolute go to baking treat, so for our Hansel & Gretel theme we wanted to make some Witch's Gingerbread House biscuits! We used my trusty gingerbread recipe and they decorated them with icing pens! (They'd look amazing covered in sprinkles and sweets too!)

I also printed a selection of Hansel & Gretel colouring pages from Twinkl, but instead of making them A4 size, I shrunk them down so they'd be the perfect size for puppets!

Once my eldest two had coloured them in all beautifully, we stuck a lollipop stick to the back of them. And then, as a really wonderful treat - they put on a puppet show for their Dad, baby sister and me. They recreated the story together, using the puppets and narrating the story along the way. It was the cutest thing ever and I'm so impressed just how much of the story they remembered!
