Downsizing
First, you need to make sure that you are thinking about downsizing. If your kids are getting older then they are going to start moving out. That might mean that you no longer need a big home. Instead, you can switch to a house with one or two rooms or at most three. This is a great way to save money and ensure that you don’t have to worry about issues like bills costing you a fortune when you can no longer afford it.
Fostering
If you want to fill a gap when you are getting older and your kids are leaving home, then you could think about fostering kids instead. Fostering children is a great way to give something back and ensure that you can continue in your role as a parent in some way. This is a smart move and it’s one that is well worth considering. Be aware that it can take a little time to start fostering so if you are serious about this, then you should start looking into it sooner rather than later.
Socialisation
It is essential you don’t stay at home constantly, this won’t be good for your mental or physical health. If you are struggling to stay focused on various tasks then how about getting some friends together for a night out. This could be anything from dinner to a club, anything that puts a smile back on your face. You can of course miss your children, but they will be back so you mustn’t be sad or miserable.
Renovations
So, your kids have flown the nest and your home is now feeling big and empty. If this is the case then you may have a long list of repairs and renovations that need to be carried out. This will give you something to focus on so you aren’t moping around thinking about the kids not being around. If you aren’t able to do these yourself then you may wish to speak to a local decorator or contractor to see what they can do for you. If you are going to do these yourself then ensure you have everything you need before starting. You don’t want to get halfway through and realise you don’t have enough paint or wallpaper paste for instance.
