Book Of The Month - The Three Little Pigs

Book Of The Month is where my little ones & I focus on one book for the month, read it, watch it (if possible) and do fun activities based on it! This month we've been enjoying a good old classic, (my little girlie seems to know it off by heart!) The Three Little Pigs!

We have this fantastic chunky book, full of all the great fairy tales and we often pick one of them to read amongst other stories at bedtime. Lately my little ones have constantly been choosing The Three Little Pigs, so I thought it was about time we did some activities to do with the story. It's a great way to really get into the story, as well as sit down and play some fun games together.

First of all, we had to look around the house, in amongst the ever expanding cuddly toy collection, for our three pig characters! We found lots of Peppa Pig toys, so that was perfect, a little Piglet and another funny, cute piggy (who seems to have paws for some reason! Haha). We also decided to use my little girlie's adorable soft wolf toy - to play the Big Bad Wolf. We wanted to recreate the story, and play with the characters whilst reading the story out loud.

Piglet was the first pig, who lived in a house of straw - we didn't have anything remotely similar to straw, but I did find this pale yellow wool and it worked well. Of course, The Big Bad Wolf could easily blow down this piggy's house!

We then built the next piggy a house of sticks, (I have a ridiculous amount of lolly sticks, so these worked perfectly. We did make more of a house than this photo shows, but the wolf quickly ran in and blew it down!)

Last but not least, the third little piggy in her house made of bricks! (Unfortunately we did make this house a bit small, so the other pigs couldn't come in too! Also, how funny does Peppa look with no dress on! Haha)

We played this activity for a good half an hour, building and rebuilding houses, quickly before the naughty wolf got there. We also took it in turns playing the Big Bad Wolf ourselves and see if we could blow down the houses!

(It was a boiling hot day when we were doing these activities!) So we decided to head inside where it was a bit cooler, and design our own houses - that would hopefully keep the Big Bad Wolf out! I drew basic house shapes onto paper, while my little ones absolutely covered them in glue and stuck on anything they fancied!

2 simple, but fun activities to do with your little ones. Not many props needed, but still a great way to spend an hour together - and celebrate the fantastic, classic fairy tale story.

Have you read The Three Little Pigs with your little ones?
