I'm always looking for simple ways to make our home a little more eco-friendly. Over the last few years I've been trying to swap everyday products for more environmentally friendly alternatives where I can, especially things that we use all the time. Washing detergent is one of those things you don’t really think about until you realise just how much plastic waste comes with it, and how many chemicals are going back into the water system too.
I recently got the chance to try out The Green Co. GreenSheets and I was really excited by the idea of washing detergent as sheets. The sheets arrived in a few little rectangular boxes, far smaller than I was expecting. After reading the instructions, I realised that you only need one small sheet for a full washing machine load! I was a bit sceptical that such a small papery sheet would actually clean the clothes properly, remove stains and leave everything smelling fresh too. But after trying them a few times, I can honestly say I am very impressed.
The sheets cleaned my clothes really well, the stains were gone, the clothes smelt fresh and clean without smelling overpowering or chemically.

I really like the fact that Green Co. products are designed to be as simple as possible, no measuring or decanting. I often find that eco-friendly alternatives can be too much hassle, and if there’s too much faffing involved it’s going to put people off. But these GreenSheets are genuinely easy to use.
The first thing I noticed, as I previously mentioned is how compact everything is. Instead of gigantic bottles or boxes that don't fit in any kitchen cupboard, GreenSheets come in recyclable cardboard packaging which is so much easier to store.
The sheets dissolve easily during the wash cycle, turning into liquid detergent once the water is added. (you generally use one, but if it's a particularly large or grubby load you can use two).
The GreenSheets™ are:
* Plastic-free
* Lightweight and small
* Vegan and cruelty free
* Biodegradable
* Delivered in recyclable packaging

They come in Fragrance Free Non Bio, Lavender Non Bio and Fresh Linen Non Bio options, and are available in either 64 pack or 128 pack sizes. You can also try a small 4 pack sample first.
Because they don’t contain lots of excess water like traditional liquid detergents, they’re also much lighter to transport which helps reduce their carbon footprint too.
Are GreenSheets from The Green Co. worth trying?
For me, definitely yes. I love finding simple eco-friendly swaps that don’t make life harder, and these really fit into that category perfectly.
They’re easy to use, take up hardly any space and actually work really well. They are plastic free and so much better for the environment too.
The addition of the fabric conditioner sheets was a really nice extra too and made the whole laundry routine feel a little bit simpler and also a little more...fancy!
However, I also have to be realistic about the cost. A 64 sheet pack costs £12.56, whereas I can usually buy a large bottle of detergent for around £5. As much as I enjoyed using them, for our household budget they probably wouldn’t replace our usual detergent full time.
If you’re trying to make more sustainable choices at home and don’t want to compromise on convenience or cleaning power, I’d definitely recommend giving The Green Co. GreenSheets a try.
